What is powder coating or powder painting?
Powder coating is a nontoxic way of applying a color and protective, industrial strength coatings to all types of metal products. More specifically it is a powder made from polyester that we spray on the item being painted and we bake it at 400 degrees for up to 45 minutes, creating just about the most durable, longest lasting finish you can get, indoor or outdoor.
Of course that is the condensed version, there is more to powder coating such as removing any old coating or rust, usually through sandblasting, bead blasting, or shot blasting; welding or repairing any deficiencies in the item; degreasing and cleaning the part so that the powder has a pristine surface to bond to; and knowing how to properly handle finished items as to get them to you undamaged and looking perfect.
In most cases, the finished product can look better than the day it was brand new, right off the assembly line.
Powder coating has become most industries' preferred choice over wet painting that uses harmful chemicals, for obvious reasons.
